Ingredients
- Pan size: 9x13
- Parchement paper (optional)
- Butter for greasing the baking dish
- 3 large eggs
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 cup of half and half (can be subtitute with heavy cream)
- 1 cup of heavy cream (optional)
- 1 can of condensed milk
- 1 can of evaporating milk (12oz)
- 1 cup of whole milk
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 1 loaf of bread (brioche/challah/pullman loaf/french bread prefered)
Caramel sauce (optional):
- 1 can of dulce de leche
- 1/2 cup of half and half
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Microwave safe bowl
Directions
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Butter the 9x13 baking dish.
- In a large bowl, beat together the eggs (3) and egg yolks (4) until completely combined. Whisk 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 can of condensed milk, 1 can of evaporating milk, 1 cup of whole milk, 2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and salt.
- Put the cut up bread into baking dish and pour the egg mixture on top (all the mixture from step 3).
- Press the bread down gently with a spatula to make sure all the peices are immersed and soak up the liquid. Let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes. Cover it with aluminium foil.
- Drizzle a little bit of leftover condensed milk over the pudding (optional).
- Placed it in the over around 25 minutes until the center of the custard is almost set up still slightly wet.
- Carefully remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes or until the custard is set in the center and the top is golden.
- Carefully remove it from the oven and let the pudding cool for about 20 minutes.
Caramel sauce top:
- Whisk together 1 can of dulce de leche, 1/2 cup of half and half, 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a microwave safe bowl.
- Put it in the microwave for about 30-60 seconds. Mixed them carefully and drizzle the warm sauce over the bread pudding.
Other alternatives for the top:
- Whip 1 cup of heavy cream and pour it on top of the bread pudding to soft the peaks.
- Serve the pudding warm, room temperature or cold with whipped cream.
- Drizzle 2 tablespoons of condense milk on top.
